Overview

Report Manager is an IBM i based software utility that automates report distribution and spooled file management -- allowing you to reduce printing costs while better serving your users. Report Manager delivers output to the right place, in the right form. No more hand splitting and sorting paper. No more programming changes or job reruns to produce additional copies. No more discarding all but a few pages. Report Manager offers a complete solution for report management.

Features

Report Writers
Distribution of print output is accomplished by Report Manager "report writers." These are similar to IBM i printer writers but more powerful. A report writer processes spooled files from an output queue and supports:

Reports
Spooled file distribution is controlled by information stored in Report Manager "reports." These contain spooled file selection and distribution specifications that direct the processing of report writers. Implemented as system objects, reports can be saved, restored, moved and secured using ordinary IBM i commands.

Subscriptions
Spooled file distribution specifications are added to reports as subscriptions. Subscriptions allow you to precisely define how and where each recipient's output should be delivered. Subscription features include:

On-line Access
Report Manager provides your users organized on-line access to printed output. Spooled files can be selected by a variety of criteria for viewing, printing, recall from archive, etc.

Report Filtering
Spooled files can be filtered (split) by a report writer during distribution. Only the specific pages needed by each recipient are delivered.

Report Archiving
Report Manager can selectively archive individual or groups of spooled files. Archived spooled files can be recreated, saved and restored.

No Change To Existing Software
Report Manager does not require changes to existing software in order to implement report distribution. Any spooled file from any source can be managed with Report Manager.

Implementation Flexibility
Report Manager supports implementations ranging from separator pages for a single printer to recipient-maintained subscription-based multiple printer report distribution on a network. Report Manager can operate in a mixed environment where some spooled files are managed while others are not, even when those spooled files are mixed on a single output queue. This ability allows you to implement report distribution incrementally.

Additional Features

Report Manager integrates with and can manage the processing of Spool-a-Matic and SpoolMail.

Our Display Page Data (DSPPAGDTA) command is included in the product. The command allows you to display selected data from within a spooled file. The command supports output to a display, to print, and most interestingly to an output file. For example, by displaying the page positions of the customer number in spooled files containing invoices, you can create an index from customer number to the related spooled files that contain their invoices.

Our Retrieve Page Data (RTVPAGDTA) command is included in the product. The command allows you to retrieve data from a specific location within a spooled file. The requested data is returned in a Control Language (CL) program variable.

Prices (USD)

Gumbo offers two choices for licensing our IBM i software products, system wide licensing and partition licensing. These are mutually exclusive. A system wide license applies to a specific system serial number and processor group and is good for any and all partitions in the system. A partition license applies to a specific system serial number, partition number, and maximum processor capacity, and is not valid for a system that has not been partitioned. For the overwhelming majority of our customers, a system wide license (~ 98%) is the best choice. A partition license (~ 2%) is the best choice in very limited circumstances involving small partitions on large machines.

The system wide license prices for all of our products, with the exception of Report Designer, are tiered based on your system's processor group. You can determine your machine's processor group by running the IBM i Work with License Information (WRKLICINF) command.

The partition only license prices for all of our products, with the exception of Report Designer, are based on the maximum processor capacity configured for the partition (rounded up to the nearest tenth). You can determine your partition's maximum processor capacity by running the IBM i Start System Service Tools (STRSST) command and taking option 5 "Work with system partitions" then option 1 "Display partition information" then option 2 "Display partition processing configuration".

The one time charge includes the first  year of maintenance services. You are purchasing a permanent license to use the software subject to the terms of a license agreement and upgrade policy.

System Wide License (all partitions)
Processor Group One Time Charge Annual Maintenance
P05 $1,495 $225
P10 $2,095 $315
P20 $3,595 $540
P30 $5,995 $900
P40 $8,995 $1,350
P50 $11,995 $1,800
P60 $14,995 $2,250
Partition Only License (one partition)
Price Component One Time Charge Annual Maintenance
Base per partition $1,345 $205
Add per processor $1,500 $225
Notes:
  1. The smallest unit of processor capacity is .1 (one tenth). For example, round 1.43 up to 1.5.
  2. Example partition only license: 1 partition with 1.43 processors OTC = $3,595 = $1345 + 1.5 X $1500.
  3. Run CALL PGM(QLZARCAPI) to see MAX PROCESSING CAPACITY: for a partition.
  4. Prices for other Gumbo products can be found on our current Price Sheet.
